The History Of Hats Off

Hats Off is the brainchild of an American inventor, John Deagan, who was himself a victim of a road crash in the States some years ago. The rescuers who attended his accident removed his helmet via the normal procedures and in so doing nearly ruined his life.

He states that he felt as though his head was being taken off with the helmet and it was later feared he had suffered spinal injury. His subsequent immobilization has lead to a lifetime of infirmity through lung problems.

However, in the seven seconds it took to remove his helmet John realized there had to be a better way and the Hats Off concept was born.

Since developing the product into what it is today John works tirelessly to get Hats Off into as many helmets as possible, knowing full well that the helmet is your best friend in a crash, but it can also be your worst enemy when it comes to removing it afterwards.

John works very closely with the car racing world in the US who have really taken his concept on board.

Kirk Williams has come on board to help in the marketing and distribution of the Hats Off system under the Hats Off USA brand.

Kirk's background in motocross racing for over 30 years is invaluable, he has seen and has suffered from the injuries that have left so many permanently injured or worse. Kirk still races motocross to this day and would not ride without the Hats Off device installed in his helmet. Kirk also has been in the design and marketing business for over 17 years.

Together, John and Kirk and the rest of the Hats Off team will be campaigning to get the Hats Off Helmet Removal System known throughout the racing communities.

We will be working hard with EMT companies, Fire and Rescue Paramedic Teams and Racing Facilities to see that this safety device is implemented at all levels of racing and at all levels of road riding as well.
